On Thursday, August 17, 2017, Georgia Department of Revenue Agents executed a search warrant in the Lawrenceville area related to an auto dealer which was engaging in criminal activity. In addition to the search warrant, an arrest warrant was issued for Angela Cruel.

In an effort to reduce temporary operating permit (TOP) abuse throughout the State, the Georgia Department of Revenue recently opened a criminal fraud case into Zoom Time Motors, LLC.

A preliminary search revealed Zoom Time Motors, LLC had only 4 title sales in the past 12 months but issued over 500 TOPs during the same period, many of which are believed to be fraudulent or used to avoid remitting Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) to the State.

Criminal charges include computer forgery and false statements, both felonies.

The Department’s Office of Special Investigations has found individuals may seek to purchase a fraudulent TOP to avoid paying for insurance, if the car is stolen, to get around emissions testing, or to avoid paying TAVT.

Josh Waites, Director of the Office of Special Investigations said “This type of activity does a  disservice to legitimate auto dealers throughout the State. We will continue to find and track others who are cheating the state.”

If you believe the dealer who sold you your car may be involved in criminal activity, please contact the Department’s Auto Crimes Unit at: 404-417-2123
